Beijing Synthetic Biology Workshop

Beijing Synthetic Biology Workshop, proposed by experts participated in “Duolun Synthetic Biology Workshop” is held on Nov. 1, 2009 in Beijing, China. The workshop is organized by Beijing Institutes of Life Science, CAS, and is attended by Director - Kang Le, Deputy Director - Gao Fu, Academician - Yang Huanming, Chen Runsheng, Sun Daye, Zhao Guoping, Professor - Sun Zhirong, Wang Zihui, Wang Xiaoning, Zhao Dasheng and Wang Jing. Academician Yang Huanming is appointed as the Executive Chairman of this workshop.

The workshop is hosted by deputy director of Beijing Institutes of Life Science, Gao Fu. The workshop is to discuss current status, development trend and application foreground of synthetic biology, home and abroad, and aims at locating a way suitable for the development of synthetic biology in China in order to push its progress.

Our team leader, Professor Wang Jing, as one of the first ones to develop synthetic biology in China, expresses her appreciation for having such a workshop. By taking this chance, she proposes some suggestions on Chinese synthetic biology research. Her suggestions could be divided into two parts, short-term plan and long-term plan. The short-term plan is proposed based on the current status in China, and its emphasis is on uniting more research units to contribute to this field, while the long-term plan is to establish a kind of mechanism which enables more and more enthusiasts to devote themselves and become the backbone in synthetic biology research.
